The Direct to Video Connoisseur

I'm a huge fan of action, horror, sci-fi, and comedy, especially of the Direct to Video variety. In this blog I review some of my favorites and not so favorites, and encourage people to comment and add to the discussion. For announcements and updates, don't forget to Follow us on Bluesky and Like our Facebook page. If you're the director, producer, distributor, etc. of a low-budget feature length film and you'd like to send me a copy to review, you can contact me at dtvconnoisseur[at]yahoo.com. I'd love to check out what you got. And check out my newest book, Nadia and Aidan, over on Amazon.

The DTVC 50 Club

The most exclusive club we have at the DTVC, for people who have 50 tags or more on our site.

1. Dolph Lundgren - 74*

The "Babe Ruth" of DTV films, Dolph has been a mainstay for decades. When you see his name on the tin, there's a good chance you're in for a fun time, often just by virtue of his presence in the movie. When you're thinking DTV action, it doesn't get much better than Dolph Lundgren, and he hasn't slowed down at all recently, he's eyeing the 60 Club and beyond.

2. Gary Daniels - 60

If there were a trivia question asking who has the second most movie tags at the DTVC, not many would guess Gary Daniels, but this former kickboxing champ has been grinding out movie after movie since he broke onto the scene in the late 80s. We still have a lot of his movies left, whether they're ones where he's in the lead, or in smaller supporting roles, so he may pass Dolph with the most some day.

3. Cole S. McKay - 58

It was a long time coming, but when we finally tagged Cole S. McKay, we discovered he'd been involved in over 50 films on the site! Much of it was for his stunt work, which is some of the best ever, and played a major role in making PM the studio it was, and making the 80s and 90s the Golden Age of DTV action. And he's not done, still plying his trade and making the movies he's involved in better for it.

4. Art Camacho - 55

Art Camacho is one of the most influential figures in DTV history. Whether it's his work as stuntman, fight choreographer, or director, what we think of as DTV action today wouldn't exist without him. The reality is, because so much of his work is behind the scenes, our tagging number is a best guess at how many of the films we've covered involved him in some way, but he could have even more.

* Dolph Lundgren has 75 tags, but one is for the JCVD Film Fest we did for our 400th Post
